Because of it's size, Lake Minnetonka has many neighboring communites along its shoreline.  These cities range from the large to very small and all have a different atmosphere.  We've assembled a collection of those neighboring cities to depict just what each is like to help you fully appreciate each aspect of the lake and it's surroundings.

 

Crystal Bay

A small community located within the Orono city limits to the north.  This city is on Smith's Bay and is home to the Minnetonka Center for the Arts as well as French Lake.  The city is small and secluded with lots of natural features, with most of its amenities coming from Orono and Wayzata, such as their parks and shopping.

Deephaven

Deephaven on Lake Minnetonka

Deephaven is located on the Lower Lake, Carson Bay and St. Louis Bay.  It is two square miles of tranquility.  The city has a mile of shorefront property with 6  beaches, three with life guards, and 7 parks located within the city limits.  Deephaven also has a city owned marina for docking your boat.  Learn more about this gem of a city.

Excelsior

Greenwood

Greenwood was Founded in 1956, and is located 20 minutes west of Minneapolis, Minnesota on Highway 7. Our beautiful city on the lake is home to about 800 people. We may be small, but we have a lot to offer. Greenwood residents enjoy our close proximity to Lake Minnetonka for our year-round fun including boating, waterskiing, fishing, kayaking, swimming, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and skating.  Greenwood is also home to the Old Log Theater.

Minnetonka

Minnetonka is a fully developed suburban community of 51,480 residents, making it the 14th largest city in Minnesota.  Minnetonka has taken several steps to preserve it natural resources. Residents of this beautiful city can enjoy 42 community parks, more than 40 miles of trails and more than 1,000 acres of public open space at their leisure. It lalso has access to Lake Minnetonka through Grey's Bay.

Minnetonka Beach

The City of the Village of Minnetonka Beach is a boot shaped peninsula located on Lake Minnetonka and has Lafayette Bay and Crystal Bay on its boarders. There are 230 homes and 625 residents. The City is mainly residential with the exception of the Lafayette Club and St. Martin's Church. Careful planning has allowed the City to maintain open space and park lands, and to retain the "village" atmosphere.

Minnetrista

The City of Minnetrista is located on the western bays of Lake Minnetonka. The city meanders through the gorgious settings of the lake and the many bays the natural landscape brings. It has many secluded areas to live and several parks available for use. The 32 square mile city of Minnetrista is home to 6,234 residents who enjoy the rural residential and lakeside settings.

Mound

The City of Mound is surrounded by Lake Minnetonka. Mound has pproximately 10,000 residents and is set over 4.5 square miles. The Mound Visions Program called for downtown Mound to re-capture the charm of Lake Minnetonka by developing structures, with a mix of residential and business, that resembled the historic, resort-type architectural theme of the past. The city of Mound has more than 11 miles of lake front property on Lake Minnetonka and over 27 parks within its city limits.

Navarre

Navarre is unique little town set between the Southwest of the Upper Lake and Northern park of the Lower Lake.  It is located by hwy 19 and has Lake Minnetonka all around the city.  It is in close proximity to Excelsior and Wayzata and has several great restaurants and shops in its downtown.

Orono is located next Wayzata and is spread out over 25 square miles.  This city that is located on several bays on Lake Minnetonka is a spectacular place to live or work.  There are 7,500 residents with a median age of 40.7.  The city of Orono has 4 beaches and lake access areas, and 8 parks for residents to use and enjoy.

Shorewood

shorewood, Lake MinnetonkaToday the City of Shorewood is 6 miles long and 1 mile wide with 3,600 acres. The City sits on the shores of Lake Minnetonka and somewhat “surrounds” the City of Excelsior.

Three islands—Enchanted, Shady and Spray—are included as part of Shorewood. Due to their access, these islands receive postal service, fire protection and educational services from the Mound area.

Spring Park is a small suburban city in the greater Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. We are nestled along the shores of Lake Minnetonka, fronting on West Arm Bay, Black Lake and Spring Park Bay.  Spring Park has 4.34 miles of shoreline on the spectacular Lake Minnetonka.

Tonka Bay is a small slice of heaven located between the Upper and Lower Lake Minnetonka.  It is less than one square mile in size and has close to 1,000 residents.  There are two beaches and three parks located within in borders.

Victoria

Victoria likes to call themselves, "the City of Lakes and Parks". Located on the western edge of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro Area, this city of 6,330 residents is home to nine lakes, as well as Smithtown Bay of Lake Minnetonka, the lake with the Upper Midwest's longest shoreline. There are also over 2,000 acres of park land, including the 1,800 acre Carver Park Reserve. The city watches over 28 parks and 20 miles of trails.

Wayzata

Located at the northeast tip of Lake Minnetonka, just 12 miles from downtown Minneapolis, the community rests upon the scenic Wayzata Bay. Wayzata is not a large community, with a population of 4,000 but takes pride in its beauty with all it nieghborhoods and shoreline.

Wayzata has also provided this area with a retail center that features dozens of high-quality specialty shops and many other fine businesses located along the lakefront.

Woodland

Woodland, Lake MinnetonkaWoodland is a residential community on the shores of Lake Minnetonka.  The area of Woodland is approximately .8 square miles. Approximately 3.6 miles of public roads and 5.9 miles of shoreline on Lake Minnetonka.  This small quant city has 480 residents and is located between Minnetonka and Deephaven.
